PIII 1ghz Evo N160 laptop 1x xircom cardbus card for WAN and onboard ethernet Pro 100 for lan. 256megs of ram and a 32meg cardflash card plugged into the IDE interface with a cardflash to 2.5inch IDE adapter.
Custom kernel with cardbus and pcmcia enabled (Thanks Claudio!!). Custom card manager package to turn on pcmcia and cardbus cards. Also a custom module package with xircom module. Other ADD-ONS -> iptraf, openvpn, ipupdate, ssh, ssl wrapper, remote backup, libpthread, libncurses and a few others.

Floppy, because it's cheap and quiet. No hard drive platters spinning and no need to spin them down. When a disk does go bad, I restore it from a backup using WinImage.

I used to run it from an old 1gb drive. even 500mb drives work great. one of the very few things they are still good for.
now I have it load from a 2tb mirror raid on my xen server. it's great having a router, trixbox phone server, file server, and whatever else I might need run all on a single motherboard. if only I could find a way to run a media center on it too..
