Argento Bridge Tutorial - Basic Manual

Introduction
This document was made thinking of the new BrazilFW users, that want to add this powerful tool of Argento series to their BrazilFW Distros. This tutorial can be used as a guide for users with a certain knowledge on the subject. It is recommended to have a minimal knowledge of the BFW software, because Argento series does not have the same "graphic advantages" like others BrazilFW Add-Ons. This doesn't mean that is impossible, only that you must be patient, even more patient than when you work with a normal Add-On.
ArgentoBR was born as a complement of ArgentoQoS, although it can be used in different ways, it all depends upon the network administrators. ArgentoBridge is a complement of Argentoqos and must be installed apart from it, thus we need 2 PC, one to install a BrazilFW NAT (Network Address Translation) and containing the ArgentoQoS Add-On, and the other one with the ArgentoBridge Add-On. Refer to the ArgentoQoS settings form in the next tutorial for proper configuration. In this document we only refer to ArgentoBridge. On next updates, ArgentoBR will be able to work on a single PC (We're Already working on it) with everything included in version 3.0 of BrazilFW, but we must use 2 pc for now. Why Should I Use two computers?
There are many reasons to do this:
At this moment It's not possible to install ArgentoBr on a single pc, two machines are requiered to get a optimum performance to manage the bandwidth and users control.
So many features need an isolated installation of components with the purpose to achieve the right manage of resources.
As main reason, too can mention that Argento Bridge was born with the purpose to save bandwidth, so, this reduces the traffic from our LAN network to Internet.
Suppose that you install Squid in the BrazilFW pc which is working as NAT, all in a single machine.
This configuration, only benefits to your internet server provider.
Why?, because if we are using Squid on BrazilFW (working as NAT), we're limiting all generated traffic following the QOS parameters. This means, that our users will never notice the difference only our ISP will note the difference, and our ISP will be very grateful.
This is due to Squid is matched to the bandwidth configuration established on QoS configuration, and it is not possible to differentiate traffic and separate the traffic generated for Squid from Internet traffic. When Squid is delivering cached data, these are treated as if this was dowloaded from internet, this generates a bandwidth waste that is really avaliable.
Reiteramos: Squid pasa a ser un factor de beneficio únicamente para nuestro ISP.
Aquí entra en juego Argento Bridge que consiste en una pc intermedia entre BrazilFW NAT y nuestros usuarios, permitiendo que Squid trabaje no sólo en beneficio del ISP, sino en beneficio nuestro también.
Squid no queda atrapado por los valores de Qos y de esta manera notaremos una diferencia en la navegación de paginas Web.
El BrazilFW que hace NAT, nunca se entera que nuestro Squid en ArgentoBridge está entregando datos, y no lo cuenta como ancho de banda, por lo cual éste queda disponible para ser usado, y lo que es mejor aún, al no estar Squid atrapado en las velocidades de QOS del BrazilNAT, podemos configurarlo para que entregue datos a velocidad LAN, o a unos 20 Mbps, lo cual marca una notable diferencia en el servicio.
También nos permite obtener ventajas asigando distintas velocidades a los datos, según sean datos que provienen de internet o datos que provengan del cache de squid, usando la función de ZPH de Squid.
Ni hablar de la ventaja de liberar del Qos de un BrazilNAT a MLDonkey (servidor p2p propio), con el resultado de que cualquier pc de la red alámbrica descargue un archivo de 700 megas (generalmente una película) en poco mas de 50 segundos, o por el contrario, crear un qos para los clientes wireless, asegurando siempre un flujo de datos de máximo rendimiento, sin llegar a saturar el NODO.
Ahora que está aclarado el "por qué" de dos pc y no una, aparece Juanillo e instala todo en una sola pc con Vmware, pero ¡ojo!
La dupla argento sigue trabajando en 2 PC, ahora virtuales montadas en un solo hardware.
Para instalar todo en una sola PC con Vmware, existe un tutorial que hizo Juanillo.
Sea como fuere, lo instales en dos PC separadas... o en una sola con 2 pc virtuales montadas..., la configuración será la misma.
En los siguientes pasos describiremos como instalar y armar el bridge como si estuviese en una PC única, para el que haya optado por montar las 2 en 1, deberá hacer lo mismo que acá describimos, pero en su pc virtual.
