Port Forwarding

Hello everyone,

Yesterday, I could connect to port 5900 without any issue and suddenly today I can't. I checked if the port is open, using the page http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ , and it says it is closed. What I only did is open some ports for emails like 587 and 465. Both are still not open even after reloading the firewall. I have tried to telnet and I received an error. "Could not open connection to the host on port 5900: Connect failed".

I also noticed that we are using 5900 for udp and tcp. Does it matter?

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

Thanks for the response. Here's the configuration.

Port Y [InternalIP] [ExternalIP] tcp 5900 5900 dns #vnc
Port Y [InternalIP] [ExternalIP] udp 5900 5900 dns #vnc

I have added the port 587 and 465 too.

Port Y [InternalIP] [ExternalIP] tcp 587 587 dns
Port Y [InternalIP] [ExternalIP] tcp 465 465 dns

Reloaded the firewall without any error and tried it, still the site says it's closed. I never change anything on the vnc port, but suddenly I can't connect.

I just restarted my firewall actually. However, this happened again and it's worst. I have reloaded my port configuration yesterday and today all the ports suddenly closed. I can't reboot my firewall now remotely and don't want to happen this again. Any advice? Thanks!

I don't have a clue.

Try to check the Reserve list and QOS. Perhaps you are out of the reservation ou QOS, so could it seem that all ports are closed.

Good luck. :o!

Thanks for the prompt reply.

Ghost: When I rebooted it, it happens to work. No, I did not perform a backup. But I just reloaded the firewall yesterday, so I am confused why it will make all my ports closed? Also, when I add a new open port, it won't open even I reloaded the firewall.

brunovescovi: I'm going to check those settings. Do you have any ideal percentage?

A newbie question :D

Is there any disadvantages of rebooting the firewall? Last time, it helped a lot. But would you recommend rebooting it again?

Well, if you don't use neither reservation nor QOS, you don't have to use now just to try solve the problem. My sugestion were just in case you could have changed one of these files before and forgot or made some error on them.

A good test could be deactivate reservation, qos, cache and leave the BFW more basic you can. Natively, BFW doesn't close any port.

It would better try all other possibilities first, but restart a server is one of the valid tries in the way of a solution.
Of course, restarting a server shouldn't be so frequent. :o!

Um abraço.

Hello again! Sorry, I've been very busy these past few weeks. Restarting the server did the trick. Not sure why I couldn't connect before. Thanks everyone. ;)
