If you do not create the second partition the hd will power down 1 minute after the boot.
If you create the second partion the system believes you will install squid or other add-on which uses the hd all the time. Then the auto-powerdown resource is disable automatically.

I upgraded my BFW from 2.30 to 2.31.1
Now th HD doesn't spin down anymore,
like it did before the upgrade.
There is only one partition.

It works for me (PPPoe) but I don't remember if I did an upgrade or a fresh install but anyway the place to check is in /etc/rc.d/pkgs/ if there is a rc.hdparm and if there is a /sbin/hdparm

OR best try the commands by hand

/sbin/hdparm -u 1 /dev/hda
/sbin/hdparm -S 12 /dev/hda

Maybe it is the same problem that I found in the file /etc/rc.d/pkgs/mod.hdparm where it looks for a file /tmp/partition.info but that file doesn't exist. It should look instead for the file /tmp/boot.info.

I already post a bug report about this to Claudio at http://www.brazilfw.com.br/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=64489#p139315

Claudio told me that the partition.info file is present only when a second partition has benn created, but that hdparm should start even if the file is absent. He will verify all that later and come back with a statement like "great job ntbill" :aplause: or "ntbill, you don't understand how it works"

If hdparm is not started from mod.hdparm, then I don't know where it is started from.
