hdb second partition mouting [INACTIVE]

Here we discuss compilation and how to build an addon for BFW.

hdb second partition mouting

Mensagempor nachazo » Sex Jun 02, 2006 4:37 pm

hello friends.

With this script brazilfw mounts the second partition of your hard disk in hdb directory...

it´s useful to use second partition for loggin purposes or for aplication storage...

In my case i use squid and elinks with hdb....

i will add ntop in near future...

Interesting,
Did you packed it into one bfw add-on?

Nachazo,

you made working bandwithd for brazil? It looks realy useful. I'm interested.

Can you place it somewhere to let us test it?

Are there any specialities during install?

Mensagempor nachazo » Dom Jul 02, 2006 4:50 pm

Danagel...

you can find it in argento bridge in spanish forum...

but i can give a hand posting the links and the intructions here...

1-

download hdb add on... http://www.ladelbarrio.com.ar/nachazo/hdb/hdb.tgz
download argento bridge http://www.ladelbarrio.com.ar/nachazo/a ... rgenbr.tgz

2- WARNING hdb is not compatible with oficial squid add-on (if you wish use squid tell me i can tell you how can you instal it)

3- now we have 2 ways to install bandwidth... the spanish way via webmin got to ARGENTO BRIDGE in bandwithd section click on install bandwidthd link... then press SI (yes in spanish).... or we can doit manulally via putty or console...

just put

/argentobr/installbandwidthd

then you can start wandwidth width

/argentobr/bandwidthd start

then you can acces bandwithd with webmin in port 666...

in argento bridge section you can edit the bandwidthd .conf file... or you can do it manually in /hdb/bandwidthd...

i hope that you can do the job with succes...

If you have some trouble post it here... I try to solve your issues.

Regards.

Hi nachazo,

thanks for your quide. Everything was clearly written and exactly like that i did it.
I don't use squid, so any errors appears.
Seems to work well to me. Thanks.

Would be possible to translate that "ARGENTO BRIDGE" package to english? There are some other features which I don't know what does they do. Are there any useful things?

Thx for answer

Mensagempor nachazo » Ter Jul 04, 2006 1:01 pm

Yes it´s possible to do in near future...

Argento bridge can do 5 things...

1 - transform brazilfw in a super filter bridge.... (needs ebtables, you can get in windows wizard)

This is a cool feature for large networks... you can shape traffic, apply firewalls rules all in transparent way...

If you have any doubt abouts bridges... view the ebtables web page...

2 - Have a super QOS feature... 5 levels of qos (Super High, High, Normal, Bulk, Trash) and conlimit are included in the package.

3 - Control user script.... This script hail mac adress with predetermined ips... If some macs change his own ip, this user will not surf the web...

4 - You can install elinks... more info elinks in google...

5 - You can install squid compiled for argento bridge... With standard manage system wiht more stability than oficial package... You can apply transparent proxy per user or for all users.

6 - You can use bandwidthd...

7 - i´m trying to add p3scan a pop3 proxy... but i have problems with mail user... maybe somebody can help me with the task...

regards.

Mensagempor danangel » Ter Jul 04, 2006 5:56 pm

Sounds good nachazo,
do you think that would be possible to make any manual in english and translate this package at all? It would be nice. I think, that especialy that 2) and 3) feature could make some good things.
danangel

Mensagempor nachazo » Ter Jul 04, 2006 6:53 pm

well i think that ARGENTO BRIDGE is under development... (especially Qos, because i found new ways to improve the script every day)

Don´t have fully graphical interface yet... and has no doc in spanish too...

I have a lot of work and i do modifications in my free time... But anybody is welcome to helpme in translations....

The best you could do at this time maybe is use automated translations... When i have a manual for qos i will post all the package with all documentation...

I think that ftp proxy and smtp proxy are good points for argento bridge...

Because when we put a smtp or a ftp proxy the speed of sending things increase at 900% the users will be very happy and we can control this kind of traffic with more pressicion.

Mensagempor Claudio » Ter Jul 04, 2006 9:05 pm

Nachazo,
We are working to define a standard mouting point for the second partition.

Pretty similar to your hdb package. The only change is we are planning to use another folder name:
/partition

to avoid confusion when the user was using another ide (or scsi) interface.

As soon as squid get ready to work with this new standard we migh release an add-on to be used for 2.25 - 2.28 users, but 2.29 should mount the second partition by itself, then none add-on will be needed for this.

The goal is to avoid any add-on (mainly the squid) to monopolize the hd.
Then, if any one needs to store something there, it just need to create a folder. EX:
/partition/squid
/partition/altivori

and so on...

What do you thing about?

Will be good, because you can use more addons at the same time. For ex. we could have squid, ftp server, and other features on that. It takes some time to rebuild packages to work with the second partition, but will have many results for sure.
This space could be also used for back-uping brazil. There could be a add-on, which will store backup of system regularly. Could exist any rescue program on FDD, which will simply copy back files from back up dir on the second partition back to system disk to recovery Brazil from any unstable state. Think to make many people hazardousness and feel much safely.

As Brazil starts as a firewal/router minidistribution, I think that ages of people using it from floppy comes to end. Amount of various addons have to attract the most of users, so they are forced to use Brazil from Hdd or any other mass storage device. So it definitely is a minidistribution at all, but more addons makes it powerful and better which is right. Using free place of these drives will be necessary.

Very good idea I think.

Well...

I Create a concept for an add-on....

And you make it standard... For that i´m very happy. (and i will apreciate if you don´t change the name... at less hdb partition or something like that)

But in one moment i get the feeling that i was the black sheep of the hood...

Because i was taking other ways to make reallity my targets...

And I only listen silence about hdb add-on for a long time.... In some moment i was thinking that you was disapointend or with out interest in this type of way...

Now i know that my ideas can be helpful....

I hope that you fell the same...

Oh no.
Be sure i'm here watching. I just not interfere because i can't test all add-ons is popping up here and there...

Of course your ideas are helpful. A lot. When i can i will study Argento Bridge and Connlimit

nachazo,

please, where should I found the period of saving bandwidthd datas? I recognized, that it starts my disk every 2-3 minutes aprox., which is very bad for me... I use hdparm, so I want to run disk only for necessary backups maby twice a day.
I have quite lot of ram so bandwidthd can store his data there. Is it possible?
danangel

Mensagempor nachazo » Sáb Jul 08, 2006 3:28 am

Hello Danagel...

Yes all that you say its possible....

But is extrange too, because hdb reconfigures hdparm... So in teory your hdparm is not stopping your hd.

For storing data.... don´t know the exact time... the only you can configure is the graph interval setting...

For storing bandwithd in ram.... i´ts very simple...

Just replace virutal links in the directory tree...

For example:

just delete /usr/local/bandwithd (it´s a virtual link)

then move /hdb/bandwithd to /usr/local/bandwithd

do the same with the libraries.... libgd.so.2 libpcap.a libpng12.so.0

You must move it to their original folders /usr/local/lib.

then you need to edit /var/lib/lrpkg/bandwidthd.list

the look for /usr/local/bandwidthd

then add this /*

It must be /usr/local/bandwidthd/* ok?

save file

bakup reboot and cross your fingers...

nachazo,

thanks much for your advice. Just litle question, before i'll go to do it. Does this prevent my hdd to start so often? That's why I need it.

That "graph interval seting" in bandwithd config file changes this period of backuping too?

What have I to do to stop bandwithd. Something like whan ARGENTO BRIDGE package is installed, but "Iniciar Bandwidthd" buton haven't been touched. How can I temporary stop it and how can I totaly uninstall it?

Just for emergency, because I really don't want my disk to wake up so often, because it runs in 60 degrees today for example, so bad conditions, and it may be destroyed with all datas.

Yes it migth possible that your hd starts less times than before...
In the previus post i maked a mistake... If you install argento squid the hd don´t stop... If you install bandwidth hdparm preserves his configuration.

Just don´t know... please tell me if you see some changes...

Use "Detener Bandwidthd" or in putty /argentobr/bandwidthd stop

for unistall you need delete bandwidthd.tgz in mnt folder...

then delete /hdb/bandwidthd...

Partition and hdb are separated add-ons...

Both are compatible with hdparm!!!!

But you can use just one of both ones...

Please need some help....

Someone knows were i can write a script that´s runs when brazilfw shutdown the sistem...?

Is for unmount some partitons when the system shutdown...

regards.
nachazo

Mensagempor Claudio » Sex Nov 17, 2006 10:13 am

I think the only way is editing our shutdown script (hangup.and.reboot).

hangup.and.reboot is inside root.tgz, root.tgz is aways the first package loaded and it is never backuped. So, it's easy to overwrite it with a changed version inside an add-on.

I could provide some hang to add-on extensions like rc.xxx and mod.xxxx, maybe shutdown.xxxx.
Would be nice, but these add-ons will be compatible only with the newest versions of bfw.

BWF 2.30 with bandwidthd 2.0.1

Mensagempor Syl » Dom Jan 28, 2007 10:47 am

HI Nachazo

I'm beginner in BrazilFW and need some help.
I use BFW 2.30 and I try to install Bandwidthd 2.0.1.
So I installed from puty, and wget the (from your link) hdb.tgz and argenbr.tgz. When I went to webadmin, Argento Bridge bandwidthd section, and click to "Instalar Bandwidthd" I get an error message: "he requested URL '/cgi-bin/bandwidthd.cgi' was not found on this server."
[[A few minutes ago I uninstall hdb and I have just the partition]]
I try install Bandwidthd 2.0.1 to separate in puty with wget, but I don't know what is the next step?
How could i install Bandwidthd 2.0.1 from Argento Bridge or how could i start it?

Thanks
Syl From Hungary
