BrazilFW Firewall and Router (BFW). A powerful network security tool, easy, safe and totally free!

BrazilFW, also known as BFW, is a Linux mini-distribution designed to be used as Firewall and Router, which initially in the early versions, runs easily on old computers. An old Computer running BrazilFW is much more powerful and efficient than some commercial software for routing in offices and homes running on a powerful computer.

BrazilFW is originally a continuation of Coyote Linux, which was idealized by Joshua Jackson. Coyote Linux was discontinued in version 2.24 in August 2005 and in that same month and year the BrazilFW Firewall and Router (BFW) comes with the same version 2.24 of its predecessor.

The BFW Project was born led by Cláudio Cussuol and Marcelo-Brazil and initially only floated on diskettes, with version 2.30.1 being the last one with this support. The following versions, in addition to having automatic detection of network cards, start to run on large capacity media, such as hard disk (HD).

The latest stable release still available as a follow-up to Coyote Linux based on the Linux Kernel 2.4.x is 2.32.2 which was developed by ThiagoFW and M客¡NhØ §åMµ®å¡ with help from: Woshman, Marcos do Vale, Bender, Cmartin, Coidiloco, Antonelli and AdslWiFI.

In May of 2008, Woshman begins writing from scratch version 3.x using the Linux From Scratch project, and this version, 3.x, is open and free. Webadmin from version 3.x to version 3.0258 was in .CGI. As of version 3.0.259, Webadmin becomes .PHP. Currently we are in version 3.0.262 using the Linux Kernel 4.1.5.

In early 2016, Woshman begins writing the BrazilFW Professional Edition (BFW Pro), which is closed-source and paid for with the Linux kernel version 4.7.0 as the core, with only 64-bit architecture and a physical machine. It is intended for professional use in both corporate and provider networks.

We remind our users and visitors/sympathizer of this BFW Forum that all maintenance of the BrazilFW Firewall and Router Project is maintained through donations.
