iftop and libraries (to Claudio)

Mensagempor mart » Qua Mar 08, 2006 7:38 pm

Hi,

I tried iftop on new 2.27.1 and I found that libpthread.so library was removed from brazilfw (I dont remember, this library was on main system or on telnet package).
In any case, I get error like:
iftop: can't load library 'libpthread.so.0'

I dont want to use lib.tgz from iftop package, because lin.tgz has libraries, that brazilfw already have (like libncurses from telnet.tgz and so on).
So, will libpthread.so be included in official brazilfw or official some package?

Libpthread was added to bfw 2.26 to be used by squid.

Then I thought we could save some floppy space because squid users would use a hd. So I removed it from 2.27 version expecting it would be added to squid package.

I sugest you to create a new package with that library, only. I can do it for you if you want.

By the way, do you know if there's a telnet client that does not requires libpthread?

It was a mistake. Acctually it uses libncurses.
Sorry.

Well, I think libncurses is still an exaggeration for telnet, don't you?

Busybox's telnet does not require anything, but unfortunately busybox is not modular.
Old coyote versions used to have a telnet enabled busybox. I removed it to save space thinking it should be an add-on which would be used only for who need it.

Hello,

But iftop uses libncurses and libpthread libraries. In any case, iftop is very usefull and simple to use, if you want to detect largest traffic eaters.

So, maybe you could build libpthread package? Or there is another way to use "iftop" ?

Maybe it can be compiled as a static binary.
Iptraf uses libncurses also but it were compiled as static to not require it.

Hello Claudio,

I downloaded libpthread, but now I get error:

brazilfw# iftop
interface: eth0
IP address is: 192.168.1.1
MAC address is: 00:80:c8:1a:fb:53
Error opening terminal: xterm.

What could be there?

????

Some guys from portuguese forum have reported it works after adding ncurses lib.

They used this link to get the add-on. Are you using the same?

Hello,

I tried iftop from your link, but it gives the same error.
About ncurses, I had them from telnet.tgz package. But I tried and your separate libncurses package, iftop still gives the same error..:(

do these commands at the prompt:

cd /etc

edit profile

the editor will open the file above, so you can add the line:

export TERMINFO='/etc/terminfo'

CTRL+Q and answer Y to save.

backup the system and reboot.

this work for me... ;-)
