Any way to block Limewire?

Postby scotts4050 » Fri Feb 26, 2010 9:41 pm

So I have been searching through old posts and cannot find any straight answer to this question.
How do you completely block Limewire with BFW? I run a small wisp and am having a horrible
time with this. I have these L7 protocols blocked in the Simplified FW settings:
bittorrent, audiogalaxy, freenet, goboogy, napster, soulseek, edonkey, gnucleuslan, directconnect,
skypetoskype, ventrilo, fasttrack, gnutella.
Gnutella is Limewire, right?? But Limewire works through the BFW like it isn't even there.

I have seen the expensive security appliances (like Checkpoint and Zywall) successfully block
Limewire, so there has got to be a way to do it. I have iftop installed on my BFW, so I can watch
the traffic and boot people off manually. But I can't stare at my screen all day, everyday.

I love BFW, so I do not want to switch to something else, but I have got to figure out how
to block Limewire once and for all. Does any body have any ideas?? If so, please help.

Thanks in advance.

I am running bfw ver 2.31.10 on a 2.8GHz P4, with 512MB ram, 4 GB usb flash drive, no HDD.

do you have squid, you can try with delay pools, this rules are more strong with the simple firewall, and other option is use the addon conlimit for Hittbit, in this tool you can control the number of conection UDP and TCP used for the P2P.

Exist maybe some instruccions en the forum in spanish, for blocket totally the p2p, use the search and a good translator.

or try conlimit from hbit... with this you limit the conections tcp and udp... it can solve a lot of problems...
Los acentos se omiten deliveradamente para evitar problemas de codificacion en la pagina... LOL
